Delivering a single project on time, on budget, and with the desired scope is
challenging enough. How about scaling it across the enterprise? Project
management principles are making their mark. Though there's plenty of room to
improve, The Standish Group's 2003 CHAOS Chronicles show some reasons to be
encouraged. Successful projects have doubled from 1994 to 2002 and the
number of failed projects have been cut in half. Now, it might be
difficult to get excited about the fact that only 34% of projects are completed
successfully, but the point is we're moving in the right direction. But we have to scale it across the enterprise. We need to better align
with the business. We have to achieve project success more consistently,
regardless of who the project manager is. |
